How was 2023 for Nvidia?

Nvidia cemented its status as the leader in artificial intelligence (AI) chips in 2023, with its stock price rising 239% to vault the company into the elite trillion-dollar valuation club. Buoyed by strong demand for its GPUs and AI accelerators, Nvidia delivered impressive financial results last year.
In Q3 2023, Nvidia’s revenue jumped 206% compared to the previous year, reaching $18.12 billion. Net income increased over thirteenfold to $9.24 billion, giving Nvidia a high profit margin over 50%. The company’s data center revenue, encompassing sales of its AI chips, more than doubled.
Nvidia’s dominance stems from its early investments in AI research and developing specialized GPUs optimized for deep learning. With AI now powering innovations from chatbots to enhanced medical imaging, companies are clamoring for Nvidia’s chips.
1. AMD Challenging Nvidia in AI with Upgraded Chips

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) aims to challenge Nvidia’s lead with its latest generation of AI accelerators. AMD claims its new Instinct MI300 chip can deliver 60% higher throughput on large AI models versus Nvidia’s flagship offering.
AMD has secured major customers like Microsoft, Dell and Oracle for the Instinct chips. Leveraging its expertise across CPUs and GPUs could give AMD an edge in accelerating AI workloads.
While AMD’s stock rose 128% in 2023, revenue growth expectations are around 16% for 2024. However, if adoption of AMD’s upgraded AI chips gains steam, actual results could exceed estimates. With expanding capabilities, AMD may be poised to challenge Nvidia in 2024.
2. ACM Research Enabling AI Chip Production

ACM Research provides specialized semiconductor cleaning tools needed to produce advanced AI chips. With AI chip demand surging, keeping pace with manufacturing capacity is crucial.
In Q3 2022, ACM already reported 26% year-over-year revenue growth. As a key supplier in China, ACM is positioned to benefit from domestic AI chip production. Despite strong growth, ACM stock still looks undervalued. The company should ride the coattails of the AI boom in 2024.
3. TSMC Leveraging Manufacturing Dominance for AI Chips

As the world’s largest semiconductor foundry, TSMC is investing heavily to lead in advanced chip manufacturing needed for AI. TSMC currently gets about 6% of its revenue from AI chips.
But with AI chip demand skyrocketing, TSMC is perfectly positioned to capitalize given its commanding market share. Between its manufacturing leadership and capacity investments, TSMC looks poised for strong growth in 2024 and beyond from booming AI adoption.
